In addition to our music lesson programs, UMC offers the following specialty programs for individuals, group settings, and schools.
Group drumming is an exercise in utilizing our natural response to rhythm and music in an effort to achieve beneficial outcomes. It is a non-competitive and inclusive activity that encourages individual creativity, breaks down social barriers, encourages freedom of expression, exercises non-verbal communication, and embodies unity and cooperation. Drum Circles are used widely in corporate, community, school, and health applications. Drum Circles are available to learning institutions and groups of all types. View Drum Circle Info Sheet
These programs use hand drums and drum circle techniques to achieve specific desired outcomes such as self control, empathy, participation, positive social interaction, compassion and understanding, listening, and other constructive interpersonal skills. UMC’s Social/Emotional Arts Learning course is available to learning institutions and groups of all types
This course is ideal for both established or beginner songwriters wanting to further explore and develop your own music. Instructor Ethan Lee of the Tennessee Stiffs will help you learn how to develop songs in a wide range of genres and styles or hone your specific style of writing.
You will study the elements and processes used by songwriting artists, learn the musical theory and rhythms applied to melody and chord structure, and explore ideas used in lyrics and word-play. You can also opt to have your music recorded and produced in the UMC studio, and learn to further develop the idea of your own written song.
Recording and engineering, which is now easier than ever, will be explored hands on using a common Digital Audio Workspace (DAW).
You’ll start with the basics of recording software and learn to create basic tracks for instruments and vocals. Focusing on the fundamental elements of sounds, EQ, timing, and volume, you will learn the process of creating and finalizing songs or any audio project, and quickly be on your way to providing quality usable works for other artists and businesses, or your own creative works.
All of the elements of tracks, aux tracks, plug-ins for EQ, reverb, delay, compression, mixing and mastering and more, along with instrument software such as drums, keyboards, bass and more will be utilized in the process.
