Bionik Beats, Summer 2024 Program

Compose and record original music with Twin Cities music producer Bionik Beats!

Program Overview

A musical background or ability to play a musical instrument is NOT required to participate! In this six-week program, participants will learn how to create a concept, compose original music and write and edit lyrics using professional songwriting techniques, and finally, record the lyrics using modern software and equipment.

Teaching artist Bionik will guide students in creating a beat, adding melodic and rhythmic elements, writing lyrics, and help them discover how their beats relate to the emotional content of their words. Bionik adds his own live instrumentation and electronic music using modern software and mixing equipment. Students will learn to record their lyrics, arrange their songs, and reflect on their completed work.

The participants’ original compositions will be showcased at a Universal Music Center concert event at The Sheldon Theatre in Red Wing, MN!

  • Students need NO experience, equipment, or instruments.
  • Capstone Concert event August 25th, 1:30 PM, The Sheldon Theatre.

About the Instructor

Stefon Bionik Taylor is a composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist from the Twin Cities who strives to contribute to the community through creation, collaboration, and teaching. As a highly accomplished hip-hop producer, his credits include Ice-T, Lizzo, Too $hort, Aceyalone, and many more. As a teaching artist Bionik has is committed to guiding and inspiring people to express their creative voices using music and songwriting. Using modern tools and technology, he helps participants tell their stories through the creation and recording of original music and lyrics. Bionik is a McKnight composer fellow, a COMPAS resident teaching artist, Music and Education director for Mixtape Dance, and an instructor at Slam Academy.
